Reusable packaging is already an integral part of our everyday lives. But what does this actually look like in online retail? In the latest episode of our fynax podcast "Thanks for Shopping!", Marc Engelmann, founder of the Hamburg-based start-up Boomerang, talks about his mission to make the mail order business in Germany more sustainable.
Marc and Boomerang are designing innovative reusable packaging for online retail and thus a sustainable logistics solution to replace conventional shipping boxes, which are usually only used once. The smart packaging can be reused up to 50 times, helping to reduce packaging waste and CO2 emissions. In view of around 4.5 billion parcel shipments per year in Germany alone, Boomerang's concept makes an important contribution to environmental protection in the industry.
The special feature of Boomerang is that the packaging can be folded to A4 size, making it space-saving and easy to send back by post. Marc explains to our podcast hosts Saravanan Sundaram and Nadja Müller: "Like a Boomerang, the packaging always comes back to you!". In the latest episode of "Thanks for Shopping!", Marc tells us exactly how the Boomerang deposit system works, which market Marc's company focuses on and what challenges it faces.
